Woman who calls herself a queen will marry HERSELF as she plans solo honeymoon

A woman in India has declared that she will marry herself in what could be the country's first case of sologamy.

Kshama Bindu, 24, plans to tie the knot solo in a traditional Hindu wedding attended by family and friends in Vadodara city next weekend.

The blogger and sociology graduate, from Gujarat, said she is her own Queen and even plans to enjoy a two-week honeymoon to Goa.

But marriage experts say her nuptials will not be legal while others called it an attention seeking publicity stunt.

Kshama, who identifies as bisexual, has vowed to dedicate herself to a life of self love and described her marriage as a "deep act of self-acceptance."

She also hopes to inspire others who are "tired of finding true love" and break stereotypes.

"At one point in my life, I realised that I don't require a prince charming because I am my own queen," she told NDTV.

"I want the wedding day, but not the next day. That is why I have decided to marry myself on June 11.

"I will dress up like a bride, take part in rituals, my friends will attend my wedding and then I will come back to my house instead of going with the groom."

Responding to critics, she said she is already popular as an influencer on social media and wants to give "all the love to myself."

Kshama said the ceremony will begin with a traditional Haldi bath where the body is covered with tumeric, water and oil to bless the marriage.

Music and dancing will also take place in another traditional ceremony known as Sangeet, she told the BBC.

Dressed in red, the bride will then have her hands painted with henna and her hair marked with vermillion powder.

She will then make her way to the temple to light a sacred fire and take seven steps around it in a tradition usually done by both bride and groom.

Kshama said her family have given their blessings for the solo wedding and will be at the ceremony alongside her friends.

Her mum, an engineer from Ahmedabad, and dad, also an engineer from South Africa, are among those who have given their approval.

The digital creator said she has already booked a priest to solemnise her marriage and is confident that it is the right thing.

But unlike in western countries, self marriages are not popular in India so she hopes to start the trend and inspire others.

The concept of marrying oneself gained attention almost two decades ago when Sex and the City protagonist Carrie Bradshaw raised it.

Since then, there have reportedly been hundreds of solo marriages mostly by single women.

Some brides have even held full traditional wedding ceremonies, walking down the aisle in a white gown and carrying a bouquet among loved ones.

One woman in Brazil has even divorced herself after marrying herself three months earlier.

Businesses have benefited from the trend, offering wedding kits such as rings and vows to suit the occasion.

But such ceremonies have not yet reached India where news of Kshama's solo wedding has become a talking point.
