Woman to launch second Glasgow wig boutique inspired by mum's cancer diagnosis

A "unique" wig boutique is set to open a new store in the city centre of Glasgow.

Parrucche, first opened in 2011 after owner Melanie Burrell was inspired to create a "luxurious and relaxed" environment for those who suffer with hair loss, after her mum was diagnosed with cancer.

The new store is set to be a brand-new exclusive salon providing a wig service "like no other" - with the new development underway at 81 Dunlop Street, in the heart of the city centre.

Melanie first opened Parrucche in Virginia Street, just over 12 years ago. She told Glasgow Live: "I first opened Parrucche just over 12 years ago due to my mum being diagnosed with cancer, and after our experience of wig shopping with my mum, I looked for an opportunity to make the wig experience more luxurious.

"The main reason was for people requiring a wig through necessity to feel pampered & take the clinical feel away. We now provide wigs for many reasons in addition to NHS wig provision: fashion, theatre, holiday hair, tribute artists, bridal wig styling."

The unique service restores confidence in those struggling with hair loss, particularly working with cancer and alopecia clients.

Marketing director and sister to Melanie, Stephanie said: "Our goal is to continue to provide a wig service like no other (you will see most wig companies are e-commerce), we pride ourselves on focusing on the person, providing a 1 to 1 service with friendly, experienced and knowledgeable staff to make their journey more comfortable.

"Especially when someone suffering hair loss through cancer treatment or alopecia. We are more than selling a wig we are there to make them feel good about the wig they take home and to know we are there for them through their experience. We also style & rejuvenate wigs so we can help make the wig feel part of the person to suit their needs. We also want to continue working closely with our charity affiliates, Alopecia UK, Little Princess Trust & Teenage Cancer Trust."

The new location will provide a spacious and luxurious environment where customers will feel special and pampered, it will also be ground floor accessible.

Stephanie continued: "We aim to be the hub for the wig community where we have plans to hold events and encourage people to come together and enjoy wearing wigs either as a fashion statement or to look the best they can be."

The Parrucche team are incredibly excited about the new launch, they spoke of how restoring confidence in others made them feel - Stylist, Lisa said: "I feel like I'm making a difference for someone, by offering a more personalised service where I can fit and style the wig to suit them".

Employee Michelle added: "I feel it is so important to provide a relaxing & friendly experience for them at a time when they might feel very anxious and uncertain".

The team say they "love to help people in every little way, from turning tears into laughter and giving our clients their confidence back when they look in the mirror and see themselves again, this is why it's very rewarding."

The inspiration behind it all, Melanie's mum, Pat said: "Parrucche is continually developing to meet the very special needs of our clients, from listening to their ideas and sourcing new products to the latest fashion trends for our younger teens and our Little Princesses. The team feel blessed when they have been able to put a smile back on their beautiful wee faces."
