Woman tells jury she "nearly lost her life" in alleged abduction bid

A jury has heard how a half naked woman fled a Paisley flat clutching her severed finger following an alleged abduction bid.

The woman, who we are not identifying, claims John McNally and Julie McNally, locked her in a Maxwellton Street flat before attacking her because they thought she’d stolen their drugs.

The trial, which started at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday, was told the woman had been friends with the McNallys was visiting when things turned sour over missing tablets.

She told the jury how she was slapped and pulled to the floor, before having her trousers and pants cut off as the couple tried to find the pills.

At one point she said her finger was severed and she was mauled by an American Pit Bull as she attempted to defend herself, in November 2020.

The 40-year-old Paisley woman told the court: “I was in the living room on the couch.

“John’s girlfriend gave me a housecoat.

“In the pocket there was tablets.

“I took them out but put them back into the pocket.

“They thought I was trying to steal drugs from them, and that’s when everything kicked off.”

The woman claims she then endured an hour long struggle with John, 53 and Julie that saw her almost lose her finger and nearly “lose her life.”

She added: “John’s girlfriend slapped me across the face.

“He asked what was going on and she said ‘she’s trying to steal f***ing drugs from me.’

“She then pulled me by the hair and John dragged me by the hair to the floor.

“John got scissors and pinned me to the floor. He gave her a pair of scissors too.

“They cut my trousers off me, they cut my underwear off me, they cut the back of my hair.

“My trousers were cut from my ankles to my waist.

“I tried to pull the scissors out of her hands but they slashed through my finger.

“They cut through the vein causing all the blood and they cut through the tendon so I had to get an operation to get my finger attached again.

“Then their dog came in and bit my hand.

“It was attacking my arm.

“I had to get an operation because of where it had bit me and how bad the wounds were.

“John turned me round and said to his girlfriend ‘finish her off.’

“I nearly lost my finger trying to fight them both off me and the dog, and I nearly lost my life as well due to them thinking I was trying to do something that I wasn’t.

“They thought I had drugs planked on me.

“They thought I had hid the drugs inside me.”

The woman told the trial she was “locked” in the house to prevent her from contacting the police.

She added: “They took my mobile phone off me and locked me in the house so I couldn’t phone them police.

“I tried to go out the front door and it was locked and John dragged me back into the living room.

“I pulled the scissors off of her and they saw the blood coming out of me, I think they thought they’d stabbed me.

“They gave me a jacket because they destroyed my clothes – they cut off my trousers and pants, and my clothes were covered in blood.

“I phoned the police when I got back to my house.”

Both McNallys are facing a charge that states they abducted a woman on November 5, 2020, robbed her of her phone and assaulted her by striking her on the head and body and by “cutting her lower clothing and underwear off.” The charge stated the woman was “detained against her will” and that she was assaulted to her “severe injury and permanent disfigurement.”

The charge states that Mr McNally was the owner of an American Pit Bull dog on September 19, 2020 when it was “dangerously out of control” and attacked a 67-year-old man.

Further charges states both John and Julie McNally, 46, were the owners of an American Pit Bull who caused “severe injury” to the woman we have chosen not to name on November 5.

On the same date, the couple are also alleged to have produced cannabis, a Class-B drug, at a Maxwellton Street flat and been in possession of Etizolam, a Class-C drug.

Both accused deny all charges against them. The trial before Sheriff Eoin McGinty continues.
