Woman taken to hospital in 'serious' condition as crash causes traffic chaos

A woman had to be removed from her car before being rushed to hospital after a crash caused traffic chaos.

Merseyside Police received a call at 3.45pm on Tuesday, November 8, following reports of a crash on Moor Lane, at the junction of Scaffold Lane. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a black Vauxhall Corsa and a White Polo were involved in the crash.

Pictures from the scene show the Vauxhall Corsa facing the wrong way on Moor Lane with major damage to the front of the car and the White Polo with visible damage to the passenger side.

Police requested help from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service. Firefighters had to remove one woman from her car and she was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Polo remained at the scene and is assisting police with their investigation. Road closures were put in place after the crash, causing traffic chaos during rush hour.

Traffic was queuing for miles down Moor Lane, Broom's Cross Road, Lady Green Lane and Orrell Hill Lane. One road user said he had "moved about half a mile in 40 minutes".

Buses were also affected with Arriva warning their customers the 47 was experiencing "severe delays" due to road closures following tonight's crash.

One bus user said: "They [the bus] was stuck for a long time and have now been diverted back towards Crosby. Anyone waiting for someone to get home via bus, be ready for a long wait."

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "An investigation is underway and anyone with any information is urged to contact police. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call our Matrix Roads Policing Unit on (0151) 777 5747, email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk, or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting log 591 of Tuesday 8 November.
