A NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call at 12.51pm today to reports of a medical incident at Blaydon Station, Gateshead. We dispatched two ambulance crews, one clinical team leader, and a crew from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). One patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) for further treatment."

Lines were closed between Newcastle and Hexham and have since re-opened. However, National Rail is informing passengers that disruption between Newcastle and Hexham is likely to last until late afternoon.

British Transport Police confirmed that there was a stop on the line to allow officers on the tracks and take the woman to a place of safety.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police added: "We were called to Blaydon station at 12.34pm today (17 March) following a medical incident.

"Officers and paramedics attended, and a woman has been taken to a local hospital."

The line between Newcastle and Hexham was closed while emergency services were on the scene but reopened just before 4pm.
