Meeting your partner’s family for the first time comes with its own pressure to get things right, and for one TikToker, a single sentence turned that pressure into a story worth over 1.6 million views and over three thousand comments.

Creator Kighley recently shared a video recounting what happened the first time she met her husband Daniel’s extended Mexican family, including his grandmother, whom she calls Welita. According to Kighley, all the women in the family were in the kitchen making tamales when she decided to step in and pay a compliment in Spanish. She walked up to Welita in front of everyone and said, “Welita, tu tamales es muy delicioso.”
