Woman swears by 20-minute air fryer recipe to make golden, crispy Yorkshire puddings

A TikTok star has shared a clever way of making golden, crispy Yorkshire puddings in 20 minutes.

Using an air fryer, Becky Excell shared a step-by-step guide, which has been viewed by over 100,000 people. Becky started with 100g of cornflour and three eggs. Mixing the two in a bowl, she then added 150ml of milk, gradually, while whisking.

Taking four mini pudding moulds, Becky placed them into the air fryer basket. According to the Express, she then added a little oil to each one and placed the basket into the machine, and set the temperature to 200C for three minutes.

After the time was up, she poured the mixture into the moulds until they were about half full - you want the mixture to sizzle as it hits the oil. She returned the basket and cooked it for 15 minutes at the same temperature - 200C.

Becky has experimented with both the bake and roast settings on the air fryer and she said both worked well. Many people wondered why Becky had chosen cornflour instead of normal flour.

She explained: “Normal plain flour is not gluten free so not suitable for me.” The food content creator has also tried using different milk in the recipe. She said: “Soya milk is often most popular used by dairy free folk for my recipe but I’ve also tried successfully with almond milk."

For anyone wanting to make Yorkshire puddings with plain flour, there’s an easy recipe to follow which involves no weighing.

Using a cup or a mug, you’ll need one cup/mug of each of the. the following; plain flour, eggs lightly beaten, milk.

Giant Yorkshire puddings can also be made in an air fryer, simply choose larger moulds or oven-safe ceramic dishes. Using an air fryer is not only quicker and healthier, but cheaper to run compared to an oven.

Unlike a deep fat fryer, where food is submerged in hot oil, an air fryer uses convection heat. It circulates hot air to cook the food, similar to a fan oven and relies on a chemical process known as the Maillard reaction to crisp up the exterior of food, with tasty results.

Because there is a smaller space to heat up, less energy and time are required.
