A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital after she suffered burns to her face and the front of her body in a kitchen gas explosion at a brewery in Erina.
In a statement on Facebook, Six String Brewing Company at Chiltern Road said a member of its kitchen staff suffered "severe burns" as the result of a gas explosion in the kitchen.
"Thanks to the quick response of our team on-site, emergency services were immediately contacted, and CareFlight was able to transport her swiftly to receive urgent medical care," the statement said.
"We are unclear on the severity of the burn but our thoughts are with her, and we are hoping to get an update as she is assessed by medical professionals.
"Fire and Rescue are onsite to investigate the cause of the accident and are reinforcing all safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone onsite."
Six String Brewing Company said it has closed the Taproom for business today.
NSW Ambulance crews and the Careflight team were called to the industrial complex at Chiltern Road, which the Newcastle Herald understands houses a number of businesses including the brewery, about 11.45am on Monday.
"I can confirm that we have been called to the Chiltern Road area," a NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said.
"We had multiple crews on the scene responding to a woman with burns, it looks like there are some burns on her face.
"We are transporting her by helicopter to the Royal North Shore Hospital."
NSW Ambulance was unable to provide details on the severity of the woman's injuries or her condition.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews were called to the scene, when they arrived small areas of the kitchen were on fire and needed to be extinguished.
A FRNSW spokesman confirmed a woman had been taken to hospital after suffering burns to her face and the front of her body.
The spokesman said the small fires did not spread and the scene was later handed over to NSW Police.
