A woman who thought she had a "cool streak" under her fingernail for nearly a decade was left stunned when she was told it was actually a rare form of cancer. 25-year-old Maria Sylvia had thought for years that the strange brown mark was a mole, but was urged by friends to get it seen by a doctor, who later confirmed it was cancerous.
Maria was diagnosed with subungual melanoma, a form of skin cancer that occurs under your nails. Following her diagnosis, she took to TikTok to raise awareness of her situation and warn others who may also have ignored similar marks and streaks, only to go viral in the process.
In the video - which has been viewed more than 27 million times - Maria shows a picture of her nail with the mark clearly visible underneath alongside the caption: "Me: Having this for 10 years, thinking it was a cool streak in my nail," before she tells viewers simply: "It's cancer".
