Woman stashed boyfriend's drugs, East Lancs crash and motorway closures

These are the latest ECHO headlines this morning.

Woman stashed drug dealing boyfriend's heroin and crack cocaine in her body

A woman who stashed her drug dealing boyfriend's heroin and crack cocaine in her vagina walked free from court.

Brooke Morgan said she agreed to accompany Ryan Leonard on his supply missions after being subjected to domestic violence at his hands. Illicit substances were also stashed at her Kensington flat, but the expectant 30-year-old was described as having "performed a limited function under duress".

Liverpool Crown Court heard on Friday, that police on patrol on Oxton Road in Birkenhead at around 3.30pm on June 8 this year spotted her wanted partner- of Boaler Street, also in Kensington - "acting suspiciously around a group of drug users". Leonard was found in possession of £675 in cash when officers searched him.

The PCs then noticed Morgan sat nearby in the driver's seat of a white Fiat 500 "appearing very nervous". They noted a smell of cannabis, and detained her too.

She had a "cheap Nokia mobile phone sticking out of her handbag", and once taken into custody a plastic bag secreted inside her was found to contain 71 wraps of crack cocaine and 17 of heroin. Her flat on Albany Road was raided later that day.

A search revealed a plastic box in the living room which contained another 17 wraps of heroin, 162 deals of high-purity crack cocaine and eight one-ounce packets of heroin. The combined street value of these drugs was potentially in the tens of thousands of pounds. Read more here.

M6, M53, M56, M57, M58 and M62 motorway closures beginning October 10

Parts of the M6, M53, M56, M57, M58 and M62 will close over the coming week.

Motorways in Merseyside will see closures this week (Monday, October 10 - Sunday, October 16) as National Highways continue to repair the regions roads. This week there will be weekend closures overnight on the M6 and M62 which are expected to cause delays for motorists.

National Highways are still carrying out repairs between junctions one (Tarbock Interchange) and two (Prescot) of the M57 after trying to complete the work for two years. Despite attempts to repair the road, the carriageway continues to deteriorate with potholes and other issues forming regularly.

National Highways undertook an investigation and found a deeper and more extensive resurfacing was needed. The team are planning to resurface over 13 miles of carriageway and said without the work the road would "continue to worsen, meaning more regular working being required in future".

Here are all the motorway closures you can expect this week.
