A 40-year-old man was arrested following an incident on a residential road.
Police were called to Blackbrook Road, St Helens at around 10.30pm on July 18 to reports of a man assaulting a woman - reportedly "slapping her in the face repeatedly." Merseyside Police said the man then left the scene and caused damage to a nearby property.
A 40-year-old man from Ashton-in-Makerfield was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including possession of a Class A drug (cocaine), a public order offence and domestic abuse. He is still in police custody.

“We want to make Merseyside a place where women and girls feel safe and can live their lives free from fear and harassment but we know this is not something we can do alone. Violence against women and girls is a problem across society and needs a collaborative solution.
“We work with women and girls to ensure they have a voice in how we deliver and develop our services and we continue to work with our partners to better support women and girls to ensure they feel safe, that action is taken in their time of need and that they have assistance accessing emotional support or help with accommodation or finances.”
