Most people expect to be catered for at a wedding reception with some food and drinks or at the very least a slice of cake from the newly weds. However, one couple have received some backlash from their friend after hosting their wedding reception with just 12 guests and asking them to pay for their own takeaway meal, the Mirror reports.
One guest took to the 'Am I Being Unreasonable?' forum on Mumsnet to describe what she dubbed as the 'worst wedding reception ever' that had no food or drink whatsoever provided. In the post, the woman who remained anonymous said: "It was a friend's wedding last week and the happy couple invited twelve people to their reception.
"There was no wedding cake. No drinks. We made ourselves cups of tea and coffee." She then detailed that the groom handed out takeaway menus for a local Indian restaurant and asked all guests to transfer the price of their dinner once he ordered it.
After their meal, they were then all hurried out the house by the newlyweds who said they were too tired for any traditional speeches or music. She added: "No speeches, no fun, no dancing, no music and no food provided."
The disapproving woman said it was 'the worst wedding reception' ever but her harsh statement has sparked some controversy from other users who said she should have been 'honoured' to be invited to such an intimate event. One person commented: "Sounds fine to me- they obviously wanted something very low key."
While another argued: "You were lucky enough to be on of only 12 guests, I would have been honoured at that. Plus a curry and an intimate do sounds lovely."
A third user agreed: "Sounds great to me!" However, others were not so sure they would be impressed with the laid back gathering either.
One user said: "I'm not even sure that even counts as a wedding reception. Sounds utterly awful. I'm also thinking that I wouldn't have dared eat a curry in my wedding dress for fear I'd drop some on myself."
