Young woman shot dead in garden is city's first female gun victim in 17 years
A woman who died after being found with gunshots wounds is the first female victim of gun crime in Liverpool since the murder of Lucy Hargreaves 17 years ago.
Emergency services were called out to Leinster Road, Old Swan at around 12.40 yesterday morning (Sunday) to reports of woman in a back garden with gunshot wounds. The woman, who was in her 20s, was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital where she died a short time later.
Police have launched a murder investigation and appealed for information about a car seen being driven 'erratically' on Prescot Road around the time of the shooting. The victim was the first female gun crime victim in the city since the case of Lucy Hargreaves 17 years ago.

On August 3, 2005, three masked men burst into a house on Lambourne Road, Walton and shot Lucy dead. The gang then torched the house.
Prosecutors and police believe the "cold-blooded" killers may have initially thought they were killing a man called Gary Campbell, but then carried on regardless when they realised they had attacked his girlfriend.
Mr Campbell managed to rescue his baby daughter from the house fire and escape. Liverpool man Kevin Parle is wanted by police in relation to the murder. Parle is thought to have changed his appearance and might be living overseas.

Pets at Home paedophile and 'Jabba the Hutt' smuggler among crooks jailed this week
A paedophile Pets at Home worker, a thug who stabbed a sixth form student and dealer found with £110,000 of drugs were among the Merseyside criminals jailed this week.
Also locked up was a heroin smuggler who acted on behalf of drugs boss "Jabba the Hutt". Meanwhile, Liverpool Crown Court heard that a man pulled a knife out in a corner shop before being chased down the street and stabbed in the head with a machete.

M53, M56, M57 and M62 to close this week and 'delays' expected
The M53, M56, M57 and M62 will all partially close this week as drivers are warned to expect "delays".
Sections of the motorways will be partially closed this week for essential roadworks and National Highways has warned drivers to expect "severe disruption". This week (August 22 - 28) will see no closures on Friday, or over the weekend.
National Highways announced the M57 between junctions one (Tarbock Interchange) and three (Randles Farm) would be closing overnight for around five months after it tried to carry out repairs on potholes for two years.

Despite attempts to repair the road, the carriageway continues to deteriorate with potholes and other issues forming regularly.
National Highways undertook an investigation and found a deeper and more extensive resurfacing was needed.
