Woman sheds 20 STONE after being pelted with food in street by fat-shaming strangers

Online tutor Harriet Peacock has revealed how she was forced to lose 20 stone after she was pelted with food in the street. The Mirror reports Harriet was victim to cruel jibes and pushed over before she lost some of her weight.

Harriet has now lost over half her body weight dropping from 33st 3lbs to 13st 3lbs and has gone down from a dress size 34 to a size 16. She explained how being overweight had a big impact on her mental health, she said: “Being very overweight had a huge impact on my mental health. The fat-shaming I would endure was soul destroying. One time a group of men pushed me over and to add to the humiliation, I couldn’t get back up."

The 46-year-old explained how these fat-shaming incidents just drove her to her comfort food, she said: “Another time a milkshake was thrown at me in the street. These incidents just pushed me further towards my comfort – food.”

Harriet used to eat crisps, loaves of bread, and cake as she adjusted to new life changes like changing her job from being a school teacher to an online tutor. She used to buy takeaways and lie about how much food she had ordered as she was embarrassed, she said: “I used to order Chinese food, but lie and say I had friends round as I ordered so much, when really I was ordering it all for myself.”

As Harriet continued to gain weight she struggled to tie her shoelaces and could not fit behind the wheel of her car. Harriet explained how her career change contributed to her weight gain, she said:

“I had been overweight my whole life, but things really ramped up when I made the switch from teaching in a school to becoming an online tutor. I became very withdrawn and only wanted to associate with people I trusted.

“I poured my heart and soul into my students, which often left me exhausted and reaching for the nearest takeaway when I finished work. I snored loudly and slept terribly, which only added to my tiredness.”

It was not until her sister Alison suggested Slimming World that Harriet began to lose weight and she has swapped cakes and takeaways for baked feta pasta, salmon fillets, or homemade curries. Harriet credits Slimming World for challenging her to cook more.
