Woman shares 6p air fryer method for 'crispy and fluffy' jacket potatoes every time

Jacket potatoes are a real winter warmer - they make you feel like the colder months really have arrived. Whether you're a beans and cheese sort of person, or warm tuna mayo or coronation chicken is your thing, cooking them perfectly inside and outside is notoriously difficult and can take a lot of work. Sometimes you burn the outside and it goes dry, or on other occasions, the inside just isn't fluffy enough and your dreams of a glorious jacket potato are shattered.

Thankfully, people have found the answer to cooking your spud perfectly thanks to the much-raved about air fryer. The cost of living crisis has led the nation to look for new ways to cook dinner, as not only are ovens costly, but things take a while to cook. This has caused a rise in air fryer sales as people are praising the appliance for how easily it cooks a range of meals on a budget.

One TikToker has shared her recipe for making the perfect jacket potato in the air fryer, and people are seriously impressed with the crispy skin and fluffy interior.

Nisha Parmar, who posts under the username @ nishascookingagain, posted the trusty tip with the video caption: "If you’re not already roasting your Jacket potatoes in an air fryer then you're missing out on crispy skin and creamy fluffy insides! It’s quicker and much cheaper energy-wise vs a conventional oven.

"The perfect lunch or dinner for the colder evenings. Here I have loaded my jacket with coleslaw, sweetcorn and cheese. A nostalgic classic from the Spud-u-Like days! I love the cold and warm contrast and crunchy textures. I am also a big fan of beans and cheese."

In her video, Nisha took a large white potato and pierced the skin with a knife. She then proceeds to put olive oil and a generous amount of salt over the potato, which was then placed in the air fryer basket.

The temperature was set to 190C, and importantly, the roast setting was chosen. The potato was then placed inside the air fryer for 45 minutes.

People were really impressed with the tip, with many praising how theirs turned out when they tried it.

One wrote: "Just made this today! So lovely, the crisp on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside! Thank you for the recommendation I’ll never go back now!"

Others recommended their own hacks, writing: "We’re in an energy crisis so I definitely would microwave and then crisp up in the air fryer, in half the time."

Nisha also explained that jacket potatoes take around one and a half hours to cook, so it halves the time. She also said it costs around 6p to do it in the air fryer.
