The incident took place on Sunday around 3.30 pm when the woman was walking on the footpath that connects Raebog Road, The Rushes housing estate and Stirling Road.

The 26-year-old victim was approached from behind by a man who then sexually assaulted her before running off towards Dykehead Road and The Rushes Housing Estate.

The suspect is described as white, in his late 20s to early 30s, around 5 ft 10 in height, of medium build, with a pale complexion and short gingery brown hair and scruffy ginger facial hair.

Detective Constable David Forde, Coatbridge CID, said: "Although the lady didn’t require medical assistance, this assault was very distressing for her.

“Officers are checking CCTV in the area and carrying out enquiries to trace the man responsible and would ask that anyone who recognises the description of the man, or who may have seen someone fitting the description in the area either before or after the incident time to come forward.”
