A grieving woman has gone viral online after sharing the devastating reason she hasn't cleaned her dirty car in 10 weeks. The TikToker named Nat explained that she's put off the chore in remembrance of her beloved late dog Gunner, as the inside of the car still smells like him.
The clip, which has racked up 6.6 million views, was overlaid with a message that read: "Why don't you clean the car out? It's been almost three months." The footage showed various videos of pet fur left on the car interior before cutting to a clip of a happy Labrador riding in the backseat.
"Maybe one day but definitely not anytime soon. Going in that car smells like Gunner still. It was our safe spot," she wrote.
"I will never get used to not seeing him in that rear-view mirror."
More than 1.1 million people liked the TikTok with thousands writing their condolences and shared experiences in the comments section.
"You don't ever have to clean it out if you don't want to," one person said, to which Nat replied: "I doubt I ever will. That was his spot and forever will be. Thanks for always supporting me."
"Pets will give us the happiest days of our lives and the single saddest one," a fellow dog owner wrote.
"It's like once you clean it he is really gone forever," another commented, and a fourth put: "I started balling my eyes out seeing this."
Many dog owners could relate to not wanting to clean their cars after family deaths.
"Haven't cleaned the window with all the nose prints and she passed almost three years ago," someone said.
"Keep them as long as you need. I don't think I'll ever be able to wipe those nose prints off my window," Nat responded.
While other people made suggestions for Nat to remember her adorable dog Gunner.
"Someone took the leftover hair after her dog passed and put it in a Build-A-Bear bear," a follower wrote.
"When you are ready maybe you can collect them and turn them into a necklace or bracelet," a second put.
