Woman rushed to hospital after hit and run near Dublin City University

A woman was rushed to hospital after a hit and run near Dublin City University yesterday evening.

The woman was out walking when she was struck by a car at around 7:40pm.

The driver failed to stay at the scene on the Ballymun Road in Glasnevin.

The road was closed for a time to allow for technical examination but has since reopened.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnessed to come forward as their investigation continues.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating a road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 7:40pm on the Ballymun Road, Glasnevin, Dublin 9, on Monday, 31st January, 2022.

"A female pedestrian was taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries. The vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene.

"The road has since reopened following a technical examination. Investigations are ongoing.

"Gardaí at Ballymun are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Ballymun Road area at this time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballymun Garda Station on 01 666 4400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
