Woman reunited with ‘best friend’ after dog stolen outside shop near Monument

A woman is relieved to be reunited with her dog and “best friend” Kevin after he was snatched from outside a shop near Monument.

City of London Police have arrested a man after scouring CCTV to find the rottweiler, after he was taken from Pudding Lane on Tuesday afternoon.

Croydon courier Abigail Browne, 34, left her pooch outside a store while she completed a job inside. But 10 minutes later, Kevin was gone.

“I drive a van to work and he usually comes with me and sits in the van with me,” Ms Browne told the Standard.

“I had a job to do so I tied him up, gave him a bottle of water, and popped into the job.

“I was in there for about 10 minutes and then when I came out, all I saw was his water bowl.”

Shocked, Ms Browne called her sister in a panic to help her find Kevin and she contacted police.

After a day of searching she had a sleepless night, worried for the wellbeing of her pet.

“I was really concerned all night. I didn’t sleep at all and I was just really concerned about where he was or if he was cold or hungry,” she said.

On Wednesday morning around 10am Kevin was thankfully found by officers.

“The next day when they called, I cried on the phone. I was overwhelmed,” Ms Browne said.

“I’ve had him since he was 12 weeks [old] and he’s my best friend and we both work together every day, so he’s never not with me.”

City of London Police said: “CCTV enquiries conducted by officers led to the dog being found on the high walk of Peninsula House on Lower Thames Street with the suspect who was arrested.”

Ms Browne said Kevin was miraculously spotted just around the corner from where he was stolen.

“Basically what the police said was that they could see two men [on CCTV] and then the next day, the two men just happened to be in the same area, literally around the corner from where he was taken.

“They were just sitting there with him.

“I was very surprised that they would take him in broad daylight in front of so many people.”

Ms Browne picked the excited Kevin up from the police station.

“He jumped on me and pushed me to the ground and was all over me just really happy to see me and he seemed fine.

“For him, I guess that must have been a pretty difficult day and night of not knowing where he was.”

City of London Police said: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a dog. The dog, called Kevin, was taken from outside a shop on Pudding Lane.

CCTV enquires conducted by officers led to the dog being found and the suspect being brought into custody. Kevin has been reunited with his owner.”
