Woman rents Texas Airbnb, then questions her life choices after secret room discovered in ceiling

TikTok creator Mich3113.0 (@mich3113.0) stayed in what she called the “WORST/ creepiest Airbnb ever” in Dallas, TX, and shared a post revealing what happened when she and her fellow guests explored a recess in the ceiling.

Some wondered when people would stop using Airbnb because of situations like these, but one comment suggested that there might be a simple explanation.

In one of several posts about the house, Mich3113.0 uses Charli XCX’s “House” as the soundtrack. The clip shows the interior of the house as the camera pans up to the ceiling. There’s a space, and Mich3113.0 then shows two other people lifting her to explore what’s inside. The footage then shows an open door in what looks to be an empty loft. One comment responded, “Why’s the door open?”

Another added, “Airbnb houses should be checked by a team of professionals before it’s allowed to be used.” One said, “Please leave a review to warn others!! That’s not okay.”

Mich3113.0 also alleged stains on the bed

In another post, Mich3113.0 provided more details about the Airbnb, cautioning others not to stay there, alleging the listing pictures didn’t match the home, and that there were even stains on the bed. “It all felt very old and depressing,” the text overlay said.

Others commented on one of the posts with 2.3 million views that it all seemed too similar to the movie Barbarian, a 2022 Zach Cregger horror-thriller about a young woman named Tess who books a rental house similar to the one on the post, only to find it already occupied by a strange man named Keith. “If u ever seen barbarian… it’s basically wat u bout to go thru,” a comment added.

Could it be a “sottotetto”?

But one possible explanation is that the house has a “sottotetto,” an Italian term that means “under the roof.” It refers to the space directly beneath a building’s roof, similar to what in English might be called an attic or loft, which some homeowners turn into habitable space.

The exact concept of a “sottotetto” isn’t common in the U.S. Lofts or converted attic spaces in the U.S. can function like a sottotetto if finished for bedrooms or studios, but this is less common in standard suburban homes and more typical in urban apartments or historic buildings.

Despite the potential innocent explanation, a comment added,

There’s zero reason for a part of a house like this to exist. The only reasons that can be possible are for the wrong thing. So I know100% at a certain point, this was used for something not legal.”

In a follow-up comment, someone added, “My cousin had one of these at her house but it had a ladder and it was her hangout lol so it was hecka decorated with all her stuff.”
