Using the right amount of fake tan for your skin can feel like an exact science at times, and it seems far too easy to go overboard and end up being unable to leave the house until you've managed to wash the product off.
And one woman on TikTok has found out the hard way that sometimes less is more, after she suffered a catastrophic fake tan fail that left her with streaky patches across her face and arms, as well as large patches that were missing any tan at all.
The woman, named Alma, shared a video of the end result of her tanning disaster as she asked viewers: "What have I done?"

In the caption of the video, Alma promised viewers she would be washing off her fake tan immediately as she was desperate to undo the results and try again - this time using much less product.
And commenters on the video, which was posted under the username @almasolhansen, were left in stitches over Alma's fail, as one of them even compared her to Ross Geller from Friends, who suffered a similar tanning fail in one episode of the hit sitcom.
In the episode titled The One With Ross' Tan, Ross - played by David Schwimmer - goes to get a spray tan but gets the procedure wrong and ends up spraying his front twice after turning around at the wrong time.
The commenter wrote: "Ross Geller is that you?"
Others also made reference to the episode with jokes about counting in "Mississippi", which is commonly used to help count in seconds, and which Ross used in the episode to tell him when to turn.
Someone said: "I guess you said one Mississippi two Mississippi."
As someone else wrote: "One Mississippi two Mississippi ... Ross Geller!"
Thankfully, Alma was able to recover from her tan disaster, as she later shared a second video after she had taken a shower and washed the product off.
She captioned the clip: "It pretty much came off in the shower, and no I'm not wearing any foundation."
And if just showering doesn't work, some commenters offered other tips to try if you find yourself facing tan fail of your own.
One person suggested: "Use coconut oil and baking soda, or lemon."
While another said: "Try toothpaste!"
