Woman left with 'plastic' forehead after falling asleep in sun for 30 minutes

A woman who fell asleep in the sun suffered horrific sunburn, leaving her with a "plastic" forehead.

Sirin Murad, 25, only spent 30 minutes under the 21C sunshine before she woke up with slightly sore and red face.

She thought everything was fine and continued enjoying her holiday in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria.

However, the next day her skin had become so tight that when she furrowed her eyebrows it looked like she had a "plastic" forehead.

After discussing the matter with her family, Sirin decided to not to seek any medical attention as she didn’t think it would get any worse.

But the following day her entire face began peeling, leaving her covered in different patches of tanned and pink skin.

Sirin, from London, said: “At first it really didn’t feel like anything - it just felt a bit sore when I put pressure on it. It really hurt the next day but I actually got some relief when it started peeling. It didn’t hurt and I felt much better."

Sirin is now keen to raise awareness of the importance of wearing sun cream. She added: ”No matter how much you think that you’ll be fine or that your skin will not burn, always apply sunscreen!

"It’s definitely worth it! In my case, I genuinely forgot. I usually would do, but it just slipped my mind."

It has now been seven weeks since the incident, and Sirin's skin has cleared with only a few patches of discolouration on her cheeks. Sirin was burned on holiday with her family last month (July 1).

It comes after a mum issued a warning about the dangers of tanning oils after she was left with third-degree burns from 'cooking' herself in carrot oil during the recent heatwave.

Laura Bevin had been on a family day trip to the beach in Southport, Merseyside, with her mum Carol Bevin, 29-year-old sister Nicola Bevin and four-year-old daughter Millie last month.

But, while she made sure to repeatedly lather Millie in factor 50 sun cream, 24-year-old Laura decided to completely forgo her own sun protection, instead opting to cover her skin in Calypso Sun Carrot Oil.

Laura, from Warrington in Cheshire, said: "Other than my face, from make-up, my skin is very pale - especially my legs. I'm usually dressed in black and covered up, this is the only summer that I put a playsuit on and thought 'oh I'll get a nice tan'.

"I do feel self-conscious being so pale because I think everyone looks a bit better with a tan, especially next to them as they're so brown. My mum and sister are really brown and they were using the carrot oil, whereas I'm really white.

"I don't know what I was playing at. I thought 'I won't burn, I'll just get a nice colour' but obviously not."
