Woman jokes her kettle 'might outlive her' as it's still going strong after 22 years

A mum who bought her kettle back in 2001 has been left astonished by its durability, with the appliance still boiling away to this day.

Jodine Milne-Reader says her sturdy Russell Hobbs kettle has seen her through many key moments in life, including the arrival of her two children.

She and her husband have lived in three different homes during that time, including one they built themselves, and yet the kettle is still going strong, bubbling away through the appointment of seven UK Prime Ministers during its three-decade lifespan, as well as the coronation of a new monarch.

Indeed, it's estimated that Jodine's kettle had been brewed up more than 16,000 times, used for everything from sterilising baby bottles to melting snow and, of course, plenty of cups of tea.

The kettle's extraordinary longevity has become a bit of a talking point among Jodine's family and friends, who will often joke that the hardy appliance will end up outliving her.

Jodine, from Sunderland, said: "Our kettle is celebrating 22 years of moving in together, 16 years of marriage, and two kids this year.

"It's lived in three homes, boiled water to sterilise bottles, make baths, fill hot water bottles, bathe eyes, fill pans, make cups of tea, defrost windscreens, mould mouth guards, and many more things in-between. We bought a new Russell Hobbs toaster in the hopes it will last just as long!"

Cira Jones, Marketing Manager at Russell Hobbs said: “It's fantastic to hear about Jodine's experience with her Russell Hobbs kettle. At Russell Hobbs, we are pleased that our products stand the test of time and accompany our customers as they live their lives.

"It's lovely to hear how Jodine's kettle has been around for many events in her family's life and is even a talking point among her closest friends and family."

This comes after research from Russell Hobbs’ Positivi-tea campaign found that, perhaps unsurprisingly, tea is indeed the Nation's favourite beverage, with an astonishing 168 million cups drunk every single day.
