Woman jailed after blackmailing man she falsely accused of rape

  • A British woman, Isabel Rose, 26, has been sentenced to six years in prison in Hong Kong for blackmail and perverting the course of public justice.
  • Rose had alleged she was raped by a British banker in Hong Kong in 2024, but the District Court rejected her evidence, finding her allegations "completely fabricated".
  • The court found that Rose had demanded HK$1.05 million (£100,000) from the man, who she had met in Thailand a month prior to the alleged incident.
  • Judge Adriana Tse stated Rose had "not shown an iota of remorse" and had "taken advantage of his kindness, naivety, friendship and romantic interest".
  • Rose's family and campaigners, including British charity For Black Women UK, have questioned the handling of the case and are seeking continued support for her.
