Woman Injured as Gas-Filled Balloons Explode in Goregaon Lift; Shop Owner Booked for Negligence

The Goregaon police have registered a case of negligence against the shop owner, T K Jaiswal, after his employee, Raju Kumar Mahato (32), who was delivering the balloons, was also injured in the incident.

According to authorities, the explosion occurred around 10:30 pm, shortly after Mahato entered the lift carrying 10–12 gas-filled balloons ordered by building resident Arpit Jain for a birthday celebration. Tapriya and another person entered the lift shortly afterward.

A police officer stated, “Jaiswal has been booked under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (negligence) and has been served a notice. He failed to provide safety instructions to the delivery person, which contributed to the incident.”

Tapriya, who had just arrived from Surat to visit her aunt, described the incident in her complaint: “I had just arrived at the building from Surat and took the lift to go to my aunt’s flat when a person carrying around a dozen balloons entered. Suddenly, the balloons in his hand exploded, causing serious injuries to my right arm, neck, and stomach.”

Police confirmed that Tapriya received immediate medical attention and is now out of danger. Authorities added that the incident resulted from alleged negligence and lack of safety measures on the part of the balloon shop. A legal complaint has been formally registered against the employer.
