Flying in the middle seat of a plane isn't always an ideal travelling experience to say the least, especially if you find yourself seated between two less than considerate fellow passengers.
One woman recently found herself dealing with a bit of a nightmare flying scenario after unfortunately getting wedged between two passengers who apparently insisted upon taking both of her armrests, leaving her in a rather uncomfortable spot.
Content creator Tricia, who regularly uploads videos about her various hiking and outdoor adventures, shared her dismay with her TikTok followers, calling out for "help", and opening up an impassioned discussion about armrest etiquette.
In a video shared to TikTok, Tricia, who goes by the username @triciasfu, could be seen unable to use either of her two armrests, as the people on either side of her had already claimed them for themselves.
Appearing decidedly less than relaxed as she settled in for the flight, fed-up Tricia sighed: "If you're in the middle seat of a plane, shouldn't you at least get one armrest by default? Someone send help."
Many of her followers agreed, and were pretty miffed on her behalf. A number of people even believed that the person in the middle should automatically get both armrests, due to it being the least desirable seat.
One person commented: "I was taught that if you're in the middle you get both armrests since the window seat has the window, and the other has more space."
Another agreed: "You get BOTH! I'm pretty sure it's the law. The window can lean towards a view and the aisle can go pee when they want. The LAW!"
A third person advised: "Excuse yourself to use the loo and when you get back, pinch the armrest before he has a chance to sit back down."
Unfortunately, armrest rules aren't quite as clear cut as some may believe, and ultimately it's all about making sure to have consideration for your fellow fliers.
Addressing this often divisive issue during a 2020 interview with USA Today, airline analyst Timothy O'Neil-Dunne explained: "The middle seat armrests belong to no one. It's common space and you better treat it that way."
