Woman in her 30s is mauled to death by pet dog in Coventry

A woman in her 30s has died after she was attacked by a pet dog in Coventry.

West Midlands Police said it happened inside a property on Wexford Road at about 12.15pm on Monday.

The victim was found in a critical condition inside.

Police helped rush her outside due to “safety concerns”, paramedics added.

The woman was given advanced life support but died a short time later.

Officers seized the animal and the woman’s death reported to the coroner for further investigations.

The dog’s breed is yet to be confirmed but it is not believed to be a banned breed.

However, a full assessment will be required before authorities can confirm this.

Chief Inspector David Amos said: “We understand that this is a distressing and tragic incident and we would like to thank the local community for their support and to our emergency services colleagues who dealt with this incident.

“Our thoughts remain firmly with the family and loved ones of the woman who has sadly died and will be informing the coroner of her death.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Staff arrived with police officers to find a woman inside a property in a critical condition.

“With help from police, the woman was rapidly removed from the property due to safety concerns.

“Ambulance staff performed advanced life support but tragically, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead on scene a short time later.”

They said no-one else was injured in the incident.
