Woman in disbelief after date breaks up with her for putting anchovies on pizza

The world of dating can be pretty brutal, especially when the romance comes to an abrupt end just as things appear to be going so well. One woman recently received an early morning break-up text from a man she'd been dating for a few weeks, who wanted to end things over her choice of pizza topping.

The baffled woman says their budding relationship was 'very casual but seemed good' and so she was surprised to get the harsh 7am text, which berated her for putting anchovies on her Papa John's Pizza. In the message, he claimed the 'anchovy thing' had given him the 'ick', and so he didn't want to pursue things any further.

Taking to Mumsnet, where she goes by the username @mollymacone, the stunned singleton wrote: "We have been seeing each other for a few weeks, very casual but seemed good. He was talking about going to visit somewhere soon and wanted to plan it with me only a few days ago. I didn't bring up anything so it was all him initiating trips etc."

She also copied and pasted the text he'd sent, asking others what they made of it: "Hi Ch, hope you had a nice night? Can't see this going any further. Just want to lay my cards on the table here. The anchovy thing really gave me this ick, haha. Hope we can still see each other as mates :)."

Reaching out to fellow Mumsnet users, she pondered over whether there was something else he hadn't liked aside from the 'b***** anchovies'. Many were quick to reassure her that she dodged a bullet.

One person commented: "He sounds like an idiot. And no - it isn't polite to dump someone over a text/message after you've been seeing them for a few weeks. It might you have dodged a bullet there - as this is not a straight-talking guy."

Another suggested: "He said he can't see this going any further and added the anchovy line as a joke (haha) to lighten the mood, I would assume. I'm not sure pressing him to find out why he doesn't want to carry on the relationship is a good idea, just accept that he has decided that you are not right for him.

"Maybe thank him for letting you know and being honest and make a joke that you were going to break up with him anyway because he didn't have anchovies!"
