A 50-year-old woman hit by a vehicle in an early morning accident on a busy East Kilbride road has escaped with broken bones and cuts and bruises say her family.
The woman was struck shortly before 8am this morning on the Queensway near to College Milton and Centre 1 and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow.
Police have now described her injuries as "not life threatening" and her son posted on the EK News Facebook page.
He wrote: "It was my mum who was hit this morning on Queensway. She is OK and stable. Some broken bones and lots of cuts and bruises but just glad she is OK."
Officers were on the scene investigating this morning after the accident at 7.40am with the road shut off until approximately 11am.
The were long tailbacks in the area, stretching back to McDonald's and then towards the town centre.
Businesses near College Milton faced disruption with the road closed off and no access for some with some firms saying they had been "blocked in".
One garage told Lanarkshire Live: "It was absolute mayhem this morning with the road closed, we had cars we couldn't get in and out and it took a bit of time for everything to get going. I also had delivery drivers that couldn't get in.
"It did eventually get moving again and the main thing is that everyone involved is ok."
A recycling business in the area said it's lorries had difficulties getting in and out due to the road closure and tailbacks.
And another added: "It caused problems for our staff getting in to work this morning but hopefully the woman is OK - it seemed like a bad one."
But South Lanarkshire Council said the nearby civic amenity site had been operating as normal.
Locals posted on social media immediately after the horror accident.
One woman wrote: "I had to turn back. Thinking of everyone involved."
While another posted: "Hope everyone involved is OK."
Another woman added: "Got caught up in the traffic, must be bad. Hell of a lot of sirens heading that way."
