Woman 'has heart attack' after rushing for new gate amid horrific delays at airport

Widespread delays and cancellations at an airport lead to a woman allegedly having a ' heart attack after rushing for a new gate'.

On Friday, a mum claimed her 17-year-old son was among the thousands of delayed passengers at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in North Carolina suffering horrendous delays and last-minute cancellations.

The son's connecting flight to Raleigh-Durham International Airport was cancelled twice and he was forced to keep checking his flight for last minute changes, according to his mum.

She took to Twitter to claim another passenger, an unidentified woman, 'had a heart attack in front of him after running to a new gate.'

The mum said her 17-year-old son eventually got on the plane for his flight and waited hours only be told his flight would be cancelled.

She wrote: "My 17-year-old son was there that day trying to make his connection to RDU (Raleigh-Durham International Airport). Multiple last minute gate changes, two flights cancelled.

"A woman had a heart attack in front of him after running to a new gate. He spent hours stuck on the plane only to have it cancelled. I drove over 350 miles to get him home."

It's uncertain what happened to the woman who tragically suffered the heart-attack.

The widespread cancellation of flights continues as over 900 flights were cancelled across the US on Sunday, according to Flight Aware.

Passengers have been left dumped and uncertain when their next flight will be as over 200 scheduled routes have been axed today - leaving passengers forced to seek alternative ways home.

Lots of unhappy passengers have been unable to get in contact with their airlines for further information and has lead to many taking to Twitter to criticse the long delays and cancellations.

Some families and their children have been forced to sleep on airport floors as they await their flights.

Travellers who have been called for their flight and then left waiting on the plane for hours have been left livid as one passenger flying to New York claimed he was stuck on a plane for over an half and a half after landing.

The airport crisis has coincided with the summer holiday travel surge as airlines claim the demand for travel has peaked to pre-pandemic levels - but staffing levels remain lower after the huge Covid-19 redundancies.

According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the highest amount of passengers were flying on Friday and Saturday nearly equaled the same who flew on the same day in 2019.

A spokesperson for Charlotte-Douglas International Airport has been approached by the Mirror for comment.
