The day after Bruce Saunders was fed into a woodchipper, his son was woken by a text from Sharon Graham telling him that "something terrible" had happened.
A devastated Blake Saunders thought his father had died in a tragic accident when he attended the funeral, joined by Graham in the front row.
Graham appeared so upset at the service that Blake Saunders offered his arm in support before she asked to keep half of his dad's ashes.
"Little did I know then you planned, orchestrated and covered up my father's shocking murder," Blake Saunders said in a heartbreaking victim impact statement.
"Consoling you at that distressing time will haunt me for the rest of my life."
Blake Saunders wept when Graham, 63, was found guilty of murder by a Brisbane Supreme Court jury on Friday.
Graham was the "architect" of a plot to kill Bruce Saunders for insurance money.
A couple of plans involved shooting him.
In the end Graham settled on a plot to murder the 53-year-old and make it look like he fell into a woodchipper by accident.
She asked her then-partner Greg Roser and Peter Koenig to carry it out.
Bruce Saunders was hit on the head with an iron bar and his body fed into an industrial woodchipper while the three men cleared vegetation on a friend's rural property in the Sunshine Coast hinterland in November 2017.
Koenig told the jury he saw Roser hit Bruce Saunders multiple times on the head with the iron bar before helping carry the lifeless body to the woodchipper.
Koenig said he placed Bruce Saunders on the chipper tray and used a stick to push him in.
All that was left of the body were his legs.
The next day Graham discussed Bruce Saunders' will over coffee before sleeping in his bed with another man.
Graham had been in an "on and off" relationship with Bruce Saunders.
"You, Sharon Graham, are an evil person with no concept of the value of life, especially my dad's life," Blake Saunders said in the statement read in court.
"I will never forgive you. Today we celebrate knowing you are locked away for the crime which you committed for one reason - greed.
"You took my father from me ... you are a despicable human."
Outside court, Blake Saunders said he finally had closure.
"I felt the most incredible sense of relief wash over me. I basically fell into the arms of my family," he said.
Graham received a life sentence as did Roser when he was found guilty of murder last year.
Koenig received a lesser sentence for being an accessory to murder with an undertaking he testify in Roser and Graham's trial.
"There are no words for the likes of you," Justice Martin Burns said to Graham.
"By my observation you have displayed all the hallmarks of deep-seated psychopathy."
Graham showed no emotion.
"Filthy animal," a man yelled from the gallery as she was led from the court.
