Gardaí have identified the young woman who was found dead at a flat in Liberty Street in Cork city this morning as Bruna Fonseca.
A man in his 20s remains in garda custody in connection with the suspicious death of the 28-year-old Brazilian national as their investigation continues.
Emergency services and Gardaí rushed to the flat at 6.30 am this morning, where Ms. Fonseca was found unresponsive.

She was later pronounced dead at the scene after efforts to resuscitate her failed.
The body of Ms. Fonseca was taken from the scene at around lunchtime and transported to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
This was conducted by Assistant State Pathologist, Dr. Margot Bolster, however, the results have not been released for operational reasons.
The scene was sealed off for a complete technical and forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
In an update issued this evening, a garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí in Cork continue to investigate the death of 28-year-old Bruna Fonseca whose body was discovered in a residential property on Liberty Street, Cork City, this morning Sunday, 1st January 2023.
“A post-mortem examination has been completed by Dr Bolster, Office of the State Pathologist, the results of which are not being released for operational reasons.
“Investigating Gardaí continue to detain a man aged in his 20s arrested this morning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Bridewell Garda Station, Cork.
“The investigation is being led by a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) and a Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to liaise with the family of the deceased. Divisional Scenes of Crime officers are continuing to examine the crime scene which remains sealed off.
“Investigations are ongoing and further updates will follow”.
