Woman forced to strap her grandad to a ‘plank of wood’ as no ambulances available to help

A woman was forced to strap her grandad to a plank of wood after she was told no ambulances would be available to help him after he fell and broke his hip. Nicole Lea resorted to driving him to the hospital in the back of a van.

She found her 89-year-old grandad Melvyn Ryan lying on the floor at his home in Cwmbran in the early hours of Friday morning (December 9). Ms Lea, from Pontypool, became aware of his situation as Melvyn wears an emergency lifeline button round his neck.

After arriving at his house she discovered he had also broken his shoulder and was bleeding from a cut to his head so she called 999 for an ambulance. But Nicole was told that there were no ambulances available and no one would be coming, WalesOnline.
