A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after a fire tore through her home on Saturday.
The 59-year-old was rescued from her ground floor flat in Kings Road, Forfar, after the fire started at around 4.20pm on January 22.
Firefighters used two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the blaze and pass the woman into the care of waiting paramedics.
She was then rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where police say she remains in a critical condition.
Eyewitnesses have described seeing the woman being put in an ambulance by paramedics before she was taken away from the scene.
Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have launched a joint investigation in order to establish the cause of the blaze.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.20pm on Saturday, 22 January, 2022, Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire at a house on Kings Road in Forfar.
“The fire was extinguished and a 59-year-old woman was removed from the premises before she was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee by ambulance.
“Her condition is described as critical by medical staff.
“A joint police and fire investigation is ongoing to establish the case of the fire.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We received a call concerning a dwelling fire in Kings Road, Forfar at 4.24pm on Saturday January 22.
"The fire was reported to be in a ground floor flat at that address.
"Two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the blaze."
