A woman is fighting for her life after being knocked down in a horror hit and run incident in Glasgow.
Emergency services scrambled to Bell Street in Merchant City after the alarm was raised at around 11.50pm on Saturday. The woman, who has so far been unidentifiable, was struck by a red car near to the junction with Parsonage Square.
Ambulance crews attended and she was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. Her condition is described as critical.
The car failed to stop and officers are currently searching for the person responsible. It's understood at least six police vehicles and two ambulances were at the scene in the early hours of this morning as officers quickly sealed off the road.
Sergeant Paul Mellis of the Road Policing Unit said: “The car failed to stop at the time and extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace the car and its occupants.
“This is a busy area and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident take place, who has not yet spoken to police, or anyone with information or any personal footage that may assist our investigation to contact us through 101 quoting reference number 4941 of June 10.”
