Woman falls to her death in Manchester city centre tragedy

A woman has died after falling from a building in Manchester city centre. The tragedy happened off Oxford Road at around 8am this morning (Sunday).

Police said they were called to a report of a woman falling from a building, understood by the Manchester Evening News to be a multi-storey car park, and that despite the best efforts of the emergency services, she could not be saved.

No further details about the woman have yet been disclosed.

An investigation into the death is now underway. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said there are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances, but that detectives were "keeping an open mind" as they continue to carry out enquiries.

A cordon was in place for several hours today with an area outside the NCP Circle Square car park situated between Princess Street and Oxford Road where the incident is said to have occurred, taped off.

Both police and paramedic vehicles were pictured at the scene earlier on Sunday.

In a statement, GMP said: "At 8am this morning, Sunday 7 August, police were called to a report that a woman had fallen from a building on Oxford Road, Manchester City Centre.

"Police attended but despite the best efforts of emergency services, the woman sadly died. At this stage we believe the circumstances surrounding the death to be non-suspicious.

"However, detectives are keeping an open mind and enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of death."
