Woman expresses upset as friends 'haven't checked' on her after breaking her leg

If someone suffers an injury, friends and family may go out of their way to accommodate the person in need. But should people follow the same rule if someone was to break a bone?

Taking to popular forum Mumsnet, a woman has divided opinions after expressing her upset that friends or family haven't 'checked in' on her after she broke her leg. Admitting that she's upset about the ordeal, the woman assumed that she would have received visits from her pals during her healing period.

Captioning her post, she questioned: "Would you check in with a friend who broke their leg?"

Expressing her concerns, the woman admitted that she has only seen one friend and has received little to no messages from others.

The anonymous Mumsnet explained: "I am sad today. In pain and stuck in bed/on the sofa.

"I don't think I was expecting much from family/relatives.

"But as the weeks go on I am feeling a little sad that nobody has really checked in on me. just one friend has come round to see me.

"And other than that I have had a handful of texts offering help with taking kids to activities," she added.

Since sharing, Mumsnet users have taken to the comment section to share helpful advice with the upset woman.

One person wrote: "I'd send messages offering help and so on, but wouldn't go by uninvited. Some people don't like to be intruded on when recovering at home, learned that the hard way."

Meanwhile, someone else said: "If you broke your leg a few weeks ago I would assume you were not bedbound and possibly still going to work, etc. Maybe they don't realise how much it has affected you.

"Why not call them and ask them if they want to come round for a cuppa and a chat?"

After receiving a handful of advice, the posted shared an additional message: "Just needed a reality check as to maybe I am expecting too much."
