A woman has died in a freak accident after her husband accidentally ran her over while reversing his car outside a local church. The 70-year-old woman had been dropped off at the Castle Hill Baptist Church in Sydney, Australia, where she ran a bible study group at around 9.30am local time on Sunday morning.
The victim's husband, also 70, was attempting to manoeuvre out the car park when he hit and killed his beloved parter, the Mirror reports. The woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband was taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing but he is understood not to have suffered any injuries in the horrific incident, which was witnessed by another member of the congregation,
Pastor Ian Deane spoke to reporters about what happened which he described as an "extremely tragic accident". He said: “She’s been an active member of the church and the person who witnessed it is also an active member of the church, it’s just tragic... just incredibly sad."
Pictures from the scene show the white car surrounded by police with a white sheet draped over the right hand side.
The area has been cordoned off while officers from The Hills Area Police Command carry out their investigation. No one has been arrested at this time.
