A woman has died in a house fire in Merthyr Tydfil. The 78-year-old died following a house fire in the Cefn Coed area at around 8am on Sunday, January 22.
Fire crews from Merthyr Tydfil Station attended the scene and rescued the 78-year-old from the property. They commenced CPR on the woman and assisted Welsh Ambulance with further medical treatment. Unfortunately, the woman died at the scene.
A joint investigation into the cause of the fire is being carried out by police and fire service, South Wales Police said. At this time there are no suspicious circumstances and the next of kin has been informed.
Police Sergeant Gareth Price said: “We can confirm a 78-year-old woman has died following a house fire in Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil, at around 8am on Sunday morning (22 January).
“Next of kin has been informed and a joint investigation into the cause of the fire is being carried out by police and fire. There are no suspicious circumstances at this time and our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends.”
A spokesperson from South Wales Fire and Rescue said: "At approximately 8.32am on Sunday 22 January 2023, we received reports of a domestic fire in the Cefn Coed area of Merthyr Tydfil.
"Crews from Merthyr Tydfil Station attended the scene and used specialist equipment to control and extinguish the fire. One person was rescued from the property by firefighters.
"Crews commenced CPR at scene and assisted Welsh Ambulance colleagues with further medical treatment. Unfortunately, the casualty was pronounced deceased.
"We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family. A Fire Investigation is being carried out by Police and Fire Service personnel.
