A woman has died and two men are in hospital with serious injuries following a house fire in Cumbernauld.
Emergency services were called to the property on Glen Fyne Road just after 6am today, and a woman aged 79 was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The men, aged 82 and 50, were taken to hospital, and investigations are taking place into the cause of the blaze.
A Police Scotland spokesman told Lanarkshire Live : “We were called around 6.25am on Friday, July 1 to a report of a house fire in Glen Fyne Road, Cumbernauld.
“Emergency services attended and a 79-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Two men, aged 82 and 50, were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
Six fire crews plus an aerial height appliance attended the scene early this morning, with a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service saying: “We were alerted at 6.05am on Friday to reports of a house fire.
“Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances and an aerial height appliance. The fire has been contained and is presently being extinguished.”
Police earlier advised that the road is closed off and said: “People are advised to avoid the area for the time being.”
