Woman dies and man in hospital after crash on A9

A WOMAN has died following a single-vehicle crash on the A9 in Inverness.

Emergency services were called to the road near Inshes at around 1.40am.

Police Scotland said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a 35-year-old man was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The A9 southbound was closed but later reopened at 2.45pm.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, police said.

A second crash on another section of the major road took place within the same 12 hours.

Emergency services were called to a crash involving two cars between Brora and Golspie at Doll around 6.10pm on Thursday.

Both the northbound and southbound carriageways were closed before being reopened just before 9am on Friday.
