Woman dies after suspected assault in Rochdale

A woman in her 50s has died after a suspected assault in Rochdale.

Police were called to an address on Edenfield Road on Thursday, March 3, after paramedics became concerned about the people inside. Once there, officers discovered a woman in 50s severely injured, and she was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

Tragically, police have now confirmed the woman passed away the next day. The woman was discovered just before 6.30pm last Thursday after paramedics made a "report of a concern for welfare", and police rushed to the scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "An investigation following a report of a concern for the welfare of a woman at an address on Edenfield Road in Rochdale continues. A woman in her 50s was taken to hospital but sadly died on March 4.

"A 47-year-old man arrested at the time has been released under investigation pending further enquiries. Detectives are continuing to establish the circumstances around the woman's death and anyone with information can report it online."

Speaking after the incident, Det Insp Nicola Hopkinson, from Rochdale's CID, said: "Our investigation is in its early stages and a number of lines of enquiry are being followed up to determine how this woman suffered her injuries but we're keeping an open mind at this time."
