A woman died on Tuesday when a runaway car mounted a footpath before ploughing through a shop window.
The Ford apparently went out of control in Sligo town centre hitting the pensioner and another pedestrian. The deceased, in her early 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene while the injured man was rushed to Sligo University Hospital where he is said to be stable, with a suspected broken shoulder.
The horrific accident occurred at around 4pm at the busy Castle Street and Market Street junction.

Witnesses say they saw a car travelling down Market Street, and apparently out of control, mount the footpath before crashing through the plate glass window of a business premises.
The two pedestrians were walking along Grattan Street when they were hit.
The car is understood to have L-plates on. There was no information about the driver last night.
Traffic in the busy north-west town ground to a halt as gardai and paramedics rushed to the scene. Streets were blocked for hours afterwards as officers spoke to witnesses.
A spokesman said last night: “Gardai are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a car that occurred at approximately 4pm on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the junction of Castle Street and Market Street in Sligo Town.

“A female pedestrian, in her early 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A male pedestrian sustained non-life threatening injuries during the course of this collision and was taken to Sligo University Hospital.
“Castle Street and Market Street are currently closed and a technical examination is being conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place. Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
“Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash cam) and were travelling in the Castle Street or Market Street areas between 4pm and 4.15pm are asked to make this footage available to gardai
