Woman dies after being pulled from the River Tyne at Hebburn

Northumbria Police have confirmed that the woman who was rescued from the River Tyne this morning (14 March) has been pronounced as dead.

An incident took place at around 11.30am this morning in the Hebburn Riverside Park area - in which a woman was reported to be in the water.

Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service both arrived at the scene to attend to the incident as it was unfolding, and pulled the woman from the Tyne.

A spokesperson from the North East Ambulance Service, said: "We received a call at 11.28am this morning to reports of a person in the River Tyne in the Jarrow area.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew, and four crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART)."

The woman was rushed to hospital for further treatment following the alert, but Northumbria Police have since confirmed that she has unfortunately passed away.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson added: “At about 11.30am today (Monday) we received a report of concern for the welfare of a woman who was seen in the River Tyne in the Hebburn Riverside Park area.

“Emergency services were deployed to the area and the woman was located and brought out of the water.

"She was taken to hospital but was later sadly confirmed as deceased.

“The woman’s next of kin have been notified and a report will be made for the coroner.”
