Woman died from brain injury after slipping on steps while hiking beauty spot with family

A woman died after falling down steps while she was out hiking with her family, an inquest into her death has heard.

Carly Jayne Farrington was walking in the Brecon Beacons National Park when she slipped.

The 40-year-old suffered a "catastrophic head injury" after the fall, WalesOnline report.

Despite emergency services being called, she died at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, three days later.

An inquest at Pontypridd Coroner's Court heard Ms Farrington, an estate agent in Bristol, heard that she was with a family group on May 14 last year.

She was walking a popular path between waterfalls when she slipped and fell down a step landing between 10 and 15m below.

Coroner Patricia Morgan said at Ms Farrington inquest about the extent of the injuries.

She "sustained a catastrophic head injury and sadly despite extensive medical efforts including helicopter transfer, neurology care, and intensive care she did not survive," the Coroner said.

Ms Morgan recorded a conclusion of accidental death and listed a medical cause of death as traumatic brain injury and right brachial artery thrombus (operated) and right upper limb ischaemia.

Each year Brecon Beacons National Park is visited by some almost five million people.
