Woman 'devastated' as luggage worth €2,000 missing for six weeks at Dublin Airport

A woman has been left "devastated" due to her luggage being lost at Dublin Airport for six weeks.

Rosie Boyle, from Donegal, travelled from Dublin to Antalya on August 31 with Turkish Airlines. However, when she landed her suitcase with €2,000 worth of belongings inside was nowhere to be found.

Speaking to Dublin Live, Rosie said she has tried to get through to Turkish Airlines and Swissport countless times over the past month but has had no luck. "What I've been advised to do by others is to fly back into Dublin Airport from Carrickfinn and check the arrivals but that is such a drastic measure to get something back that is rightfully yours," she said.

"I checked my luggage in like everyone else and it never made it to the other side in Antalya. I was 10 days in Turkey without anything, all of my belongings were in the suitcase.

"All my cosmetics, creams, clothes and sentimental items belonging to my late dad that are irreplaceable. The value of everything in there is probably around €2000.

"I was given a report number from Turkish Airlines and everyday when I was on holiday I rang to see if it had arrived at the airport but it didn't. I don't want to make a claim, I just want my luggage back."

Rosie checked the lost luggage area of Antalya Airport on the day she was flying back to Dublin but her suitcase was not there and she was told it was still in Dublin. Upon arriving back in Dublin, she said she didn't realise at the time that her suitcase may have been in the arrivals hall and regrets leaving without checking for it.

She said she cannot get through to anyone at Swissport or Turkish Airlines to receive an update on her suitcase's location or when she will receive it. "I ring them everyday trying to get through but you just get an automated message," Rosie said.

"I've sent countless emails and gotten no reply. I'm just trying my best now to try and get it back."

Dublin Airport's advice for passengers with missing luggage is to contact their airline or ground handling company. Their website says: "Property lost on board aircraft or checked-in luggage is the responsibility of the airline or ground handling company.

"Dublin Airport does not process or have access to information about any item left on aircraft or baggage lost by airlines. Dublin Airport advises you to contact your Airline or Handling Agent directly regarding left/lost luggage queries and their luggage reclaim procedure."

Dublin Live has contacted Turkish Airlines and Swissport for comment.
