A dog groomer provides free grooms to customers who have struggled to pay due to the cost of living crisis.
Celia Claire has run Toxteth-based Pawfect Paws for three years after qualifying as a dog groomer five years ago. Due to rising costs many of her customers are struggling to pay for the much needed service which is a financial strain on her too.
Celia told the ECHO: "I've been providing free grooms to pensioners, homeless dog owners and my regular customers who've been struggling with the cost of living. It's difficult to give up paid work though and that's why a Just Giving page has been set up so we can continue to help beloved pets.

"For some the dog is all they have in their lives and they dread the thought of having to give them up. Over winter I saw elderly struggling with heating and food and there was no way they could afford to get their dogs groomed as well.
"Some coats require a lot of care. Sometimes new owners are not aware of the coat care they will require to avoid matting. This can be costly but it's essential they're professionally groomed regularly to avoid matting and skin issues".
She went on to explain how matted hair can progress quickly from causing mild skin irritation to infecting wounds. Mats around the hind end can cause an accumulation of faeces and sores. Hair mats can grow tight and restrict or cut off blood circulation, which can eventually require amputation.
Celia added: "I adore dogs and always wanted to work with animals. I decided to do a grooming course and realised I really loved it. It never feels like work and so much fun.
"I feel great knowing I’ve helped the dog to feel and look so much better. Everyone has been really grateful."
Grooming is an important part of a dog's wellbeing. Failing to groom them regularly can have health consequences. Details on the RSPCA website reads: "grooming is an essential part of responsible dog ownership."
For customers who have issues which prevent them getting out as much, Celia runs a pick up and drop of service. She works with dog walkers too and arranges for them to take them out and the Just Giving donations will help pay for 100 grooms and walks if she hits her £5,000 target.
A 68-year-old customer, who didn't want to be named, said: "I was used to getting my dog groomed regularly. I've always taken good care of him and he’s gone to Pawfect Paws for two years. Things were getting harder to finance and I wasn’t able to afford to pay for grooms anymore. Celia said she would continue to groom Alfie for free until things improve.
"I'm so grateful, he looks and feels so much better after his groom. I have health issues and can’t get out the house much so this really helps as she offers a pick up and drop off service.
"It's perfect. Alfie is always excited to see his dog groomer and runs to greet her".
Celia will take part in a Liverpool to Chester bike ride on July 2 to raise awareness of the impact the cost of living is having on dog owners.
