Woman denies murdering 'absolute legend' Gary Morgan

A woman has denied murdering a Merseyside man and is set to stand trial later this year.

Emma Walsh stands accused of murdering Gary Morgan, from Prescot, who died earlier this year shortly after being found by police with a stab wound to his side.

Emergency services were called to Lavan Close in Everton at around 11.30pm, on Sunday, April 10, to a report a man had been stabbed. At the scene, police found the 36-year-old injured.

Walsh, of Lavan Close, was later arrested and charged with his murder. She appeared over video link at Liverpool Crown Court this morning an pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr Morgan.

John Benson QC, prosecuting, and Sarah Holt, defending, confirmed to the court a preliminary trial date of September 26 had already been set.

Judge Neil Flewitt QC confirmed that date and ordered Walsh to serve her defence statement prior to the trial and said she should be in attendance throughout.

At the time of Mr Morgan’s death, a Merseyside Police statement said: "We can confirm a 30-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of a man in Everton. Emma Walsh, of Lavan Close, Everton, was charged with the murder of 36 year-old Gary Morgan.

"Mr Morgan, who is from the Prescot area, was found with a puncture wound to the side of his body at around 11.30pm on Sunday 10th April. He was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.”

Tributes poured in for Mr Morgan after his death, with some referring to him as "an absolute legend" and a "great lad".
