A woman has been charged with murder after a fatal house fire in Melbourne’s south-east last month.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire and people injured at Sunburnt Circuit in Clyde North, 46km south-east of the Melbourne CBD, about 1.45am on 18 December.

Two men, aged 46 and 44, were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, with the 44-year-old dying from his injuries later that day. A woman was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries, the ABC reported.

In a statement on Friday, Victoria police said she had been charged after the incident.

“A 29-year-old woman taken to hospital under police guard has this morning been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder,” the statement said. Police believe the parties involved are known to each other.

The woman has been remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne magistrates court on Saturday.

Police said two other people inside the property at the time, a 43-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl, were not physically injured during the incident.

The 46-year-old man remains in hospital in a stable condition.
