A woman in Texas has been charged with attempted capital murder and injury to a child after an incident at an apartment complex pool. The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations has identified the family involved as Muslim and Palestinian.
The Euless Police Department responded to a call at the pool where witnesses reported a woman, later identified as Elizabeth Wolf, attempting to drown a 3-year-old child and making racial statements. Wolf was arrested for public intoxication at the scene.
The victim's mother, who was visibly Muslim and wearing a hijab, stated that Wolf questioned her nationality and made derogatory remarks. Wolf allegedly tried to grab the mother's 6-year-old son before forcibly submerging the 3-year-old daughter underwater.
The children were medically cleared following the incident. The mother expressed fear for her family's safety and called for a hate crime investigation.
Wolf posted bail for the charges of attempted capital murder and injury to a child. Calls for a hate crime probe and increased bail have been made by the Council on American-Islamic Relations and Texas Rep. Salman Bhojani.
Rep. Bhojani condemned the incident, stating that hate has no place in the community. The affected family is seeking reassurance and safety measures following the traumatic event.
